Now that most of us are well into planning our Summer wardrobes, we have definitely been leaning more towards colors. Color has seemed to be trending for some time now and if you know me, then you know I’m ecstatic. Now I’m usually a fan of sherbet like colors including shades of pinks and oranges. Although I’ve still managed to add a few more pieces of my favorite color, I’m really into citrus colors right now. I think this is definitely a new wave to jump on this Summer and I’m here with all the tips.
Citrus colors are known as colors inspired by citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruits, etc. Citrus colors provide the same characteristics of their fruit; they are seen as fresh, tangy and sharp. The great thing is there are so many shades of orange, yellow and green that suits nearly all skin tones. If you’re not into super bright opt for a citron or pale yellow or a dark lime. The options are many, so let’s talk about some ways to style them.
Wear them Together
When in doubt about what colors pair well together, you can always refer to the color wheel. Orange, green and yellow are known as analogous colors; which are colors paired directly next to each other on the color wheel. To make a long story short, it is a rule of thumb that these colors always pair well with another. It doesn’t matter what shade you choose as long a they line up on the color wheel. Check out my post here to learn more about pairing colors from the color wheel.
Find a Pattern
There are so many vintage patterns out right now that include citrus colors. Oranges, yellows and greens are always a main color palette for 60s and 70s clothing. These retro patterns from decades past are back in a major way this season, and will make for a fun and refreshing look. One of my favorite retailers Zara has a lot of psychedelic inspired options that have vibrant citrus color palettes. So what do you say; can you get groovy with this idea?
Add an Accessory
As usual, one of my universal tips is to incorporate accessories. Sometimes venturing into new territory with color can be scary. Adding an accessory is usually a great way to ease into it. Try a citrus colored bag or shoe to an otherwise neutral outfit, to add a refreshing pop. I’m really loving orange and green sandals right now.
So who plans on being lemon lime sublime with me this Summer? You won’t go wrong adding orange, yellow or green into your wardrobe this season. Or if you’re bold like me, then why not all three. It’s definitely the summer to actually summer, so why not step out in style. Let me know which color you plan on trying out in the comments below.
