Spring has finally sprung so get ready to see an array of florals, heightened lengths, more legs and of course the bright cheery colors that mark the season. Besides some of the new trends like padded tees and mules, I’m loving the suiting trend. Suits have rapidly become a staple in the modern day women’s closet the past few seasons; and the trend continues. Suits this spring are updated with boxy silhouettes, trading full length trousers for long shorts and unpredictable color palettes. These three tips are what you can abide by to update your wardrobe and suit up this spring.

Boxy Silhouettes

Gone are the days of the ultra tailored suit. Now don’t get me wrong, I die for a nicely tailored suit, especially in white. But this season it’s all about the boxy, oversized and roomy. So there’s no need to get rid of your finely tailored suits; just move them aside for a season or two. When scouring for a new suit, try a boyfriend fit. Make sure it has an oversized look and not just big. There’s still a fine line between looking sloppy and looking intentional. My blazer is a size small, but because it’s oversized, the proportions aren’t thrown off. Balancing proportions are important . Either opt for a heel or a sneaker. A flat sandal or shoe will make the look dated and depending on height, not properly proportioned. Check out some of my favorite boxy styles below.

Suit Meets Shorts

The runways this season were filled with fresh and modern takes on suiting. In lieu of the flare or straight trouser we usually see, long shorts have made a comeback. I love this trend and also love the fact that you can easily pair them as separates. To dive into this trend opt for neutral tones to keep the look modern and chic. If you like a little pattern like me, try it with a settle pinstripe, just nothing too overwhelming. You are already making a great statement with the shorts. Check out some of my pics below.

Color Craze

Suiting, traditionally being more muted and professional for the workplace, has come so far. Women wear suits for work as well as play nowadays; so why not be playful in your color choice. With Spring here, its the perfect opportunity to dive into unexpected colors. My top choices for the season are shades of blue, lilac and mint. A bright blue is so bold and daring. I love that it commands your attention when walking into a room (Shop mine below) Pair it with simple, clean lines and neutral colors like white, black or nude. I also love lilac and mint, not only because they are pastels, but they are both very neutral. You will be able to pair these colors with so many other colors. Try lilac with orange, or mint with poppy. Here are a few of my faves below.

I hope you will consider these trends if you’re in the market to purchase a new suit. There are so many great styles out now so it shouldn’t be too hard to find the perfect one. If you need a little help, I’ve done the work for you; shop my faves above. Suits are a great way to looked put together and incorporating these tips will keep you looking fab and not drab!
