Patterns and Prints

A fun pattern is always a win for summer. It instantly adds personality to the simplest of silhouettes. I always gravitate towards bright colors, but can we talk about this neutral geometric dress by New York and Company for a minute. It has a simple trapeze silhouette which can sometimes be somewhat lackluster, but I was instantly drawn to this neutral pattern which gave a modern feel. I also decided to add a belt to create definition of my waist and add something extra. I love that I can pull out any of the colors in the pattern to match my complimenting accessories. This is a great rule of thumb when wearing any pattern. If you only remember one thing from this post, it’s to think patterns and prints. They are a one stop shop and so much easier to wear than you think.

Wear White

Summer time is the last official season we really get to wear white. That’s if you follow the silly fashion rules on no white after Labor Day. But for me there’s just something about white in the summer; especially in the form of a dress. It’s bright, light and looks so fresh on every complexion. I love to wear white dresses in a monochrome manner, by matching it with other shades of white for my accessories. An all white monochrome look is always a vibe. If you’re not into patterns or bright colors, then definitely consider purchasing a few white dresses to have on hand this summer season. When shopping keep in mind the fabric and fit. I love cottons and linen blends to keep you cool and to look season appropriate. As far as silhouettes, babydoll dresses, off the shoulder and fitted midi lengths, for a night out, are my faves. Check out some of my picks below.

Simple Silhouettes and Interesting Details

One other thing to consider when buying dresses are simple styles and interesting details. Because it is seasonally hot in most places, you don’t want to be weighed down by heavy fabrics or styles that cause much maneuvering. As much as I love a dramatic piece, simpler silhouettes are usually better for the summer season. It allows for a more comfortable, at ease flow, which is what you want once the temps start to soar. You want to look effortless and chic, and not fussy.

Fo those who do prefer more drama, like me, look for interesting details. Maybe pick a dress with an interesting neckline, or one that laces up the back. Simple details are what will give your dress personality while still keeping you looking cool and collected in the hot weather.

Now that I’ve given you a few tips to go by, now’s the time to stock up on your summer dresses. There are so many affordable yet beautiful styles from all retailers, but I’ve given you a few of my favorites to shop.
