The Little White Dress; Four Styles you Need this Summer

I know you’re used to hearing the words little and dress with black wedged in between the two. As much as I agree with every woman owning a “little back dress”, she also needs its counterpart; a “little white dress”. In the summer time, whites become essential because of their lightweight feel and minimal clean look against the summer sun. Let’s face it; having a white dress in your wardrobe is necessary. It’s clean, fresh and a must no matter what size ,shape or skin tone you are. Here’s my roundup of four of my favorite white dress styles for summer and why I love them.

The Babydoll

A babydoll dress is one of the most feminine and flirty styles; and just so sublime in white. I’m not much of a fan of fitted white dresses that are short in length. I think the aline silhouette of of babydoll dresses add just the right amount of flirtiness without being too overly sexy. Sometimes white fabrics can be somewhat sheer and can sometimes not read as classy in a fitted style. Babydoll dresses look great on most body types and are super simple to wear. Pair with your favorite flat sandal or a combat boot for an edgy juxtaposition.

The Midi

I love a good midid dress in any color, but white is just the icing on my chocolate cake. I mean just look at my skin against that white. A midi dress is the perfect balance of sexy and sophistication. Fitted styles in midi are usually more appealing and modern. Sometimes mdid lengths that are looser, can come of somewhat frumpy and require too many style hacks to come off fashionable. One rule to c figure when onsidering length is balance.

Usually short styles lends itself to wider a line cuts. Longer lengths, especially midi, lends to more fitted styles for a more appropriate balance. If you don’t care for a billowy shorter style, just be sure there’s volume in the sleeves. This will balance out the shorter length of the dress. If you prefer longer with volume, make sure the top bares some skin to balance the longer, flowy feel.

Shorter/wider- Longer/ leaner

Boho Maxi-

Now I know this one is somewhat more specific, but if you do white maxi dress I simply adore this style. Something about a longer bohemian style just lends itself to so many occasion. It could easily be worn to the beach or a trip to Italy or Greece. A good caftan or long billowy style with embroidery or ruffles just works. Blogger Laura E pulls this off so effortlessly. I know this may not be for everyone, but it really just works.

The Shirtdress

Now this is a classic style that has been around for some time; and for a reason Its a need for any wardrobe. A shirt dress alone is so versatile, now add white shirtdress and the options are endless. Wear alone or under a sweater in the fall and winter with your favorite boot. Going to the beach? Wear over your swimsuit or open over a bralette for a Cool jacket like vibe. A shirtdress is just so effortless yet so chic. For more ways to style a shirtdress, check out my style video here.
