Ways to Layer your Summer Dresses for Spring

I know we all can’t wait for Summer to arrive. With more people getting vaccinated, the looks of beaches and exotic vacations seem so much more obtainable. I’ve already started stocking up on pretty and flow dresses for the summer that I can’t wait to wear. But, who says you have to wait to start wearing those beautiful frocks. If your like me, and want to get more bang for your buck these days with your clothing, you have to find ways to transition your pieces into different seasons. Lucky for you’ve I’ve got some tips on how to style those pretty dresses now. Keep reading for 3 style tips on how to wear your Summer dresses in the Spring.

Layer a T-shirt/Blouse Underneath

A great way to wear your sleeveless and strapless dresses now is to wear a layer underneath. This will bring it into the season and give you the extra layer you need for the cooler spring temps. Try a t-shirt under a slip dress paired with sneakers. If you want a slightly dressier feel layer a blouse with a dramatic sleeve underneath for a chic and sophisticated feel.

Tip: Whether a t-shirt or blouse make sure you choose something form fitted or a thin fabric like a stretch cotton or silk. This will keep it looking smooth and crisp vs sloppy and fussy.

I recently purchased the above Zara number during their last sale. I immediately envisioned styling the dress with a big floppy sun hat, straw bag and sun hat. But because I couldn’t wait to wear it I layered this polka dot blouse underneath this beautiful mint strapless dress. It creates just the right amount of drama, and an added belt creates more defined shape from the billowy silhouette.

Throw a Denim or leather Jacket Over

In the Spring season, there’s no better staple to have than a stylish lightweight jacket. Both denim and a leather jacket are great options. If you want to opt for a more casual feel a distressed denim jacket is perfect. It can be worn over a t-shirt dress or sundress. If you’re feening for a little bit of edge, the leather jacket will be your go to. With the leather style, a juxtaposition will bring major style factor. Try layering over a dressier piece like a silk slip dress or floral babydoll dress.

Tuck Into a Skirt

Now this style hack is probably the most creative but requires attention to proportions. For the skirt I would make sure its something fuller, not clingy. Tulle, pleated and aline skirts will work best. This way you won’t show any bunched up fabric underneath. It will give a smooth transition, where no one will even know you’re wearing a dress, but assume it’s a top. Now you have more leeway with the dress since it will be hidden. For instance, you could wear a fitted tank dress underneath your skirt for the appearance of a tank top. You could also wear a satin midi dress underneath of a fuller tulle skirt for a dressy occasion. If you want a little drama, opt for a printed wrap dress under a full skirt. You really have several options just by considering these simple rules.

So just because we still have a few months until summer is officially here, doesn’t mean you can’t start rocking your summer clothes now. Don’t leave those fun summer pieces lingering in your cart. Try out some of these tips with new pieces or rethinking some dresses you already own. You’ll be surprised at how many new outfits you can create and how much more use you get out of your wardrobe.
