Why You need A Pair of Sailor Shorts this Spring

If you’ve been keeping up with some of the trends then you may be well aware of a classic, yet preppy trend making a huge comeback. I’m talking none other than the nautical trend. The preppy chic vibe was seen on several runways presented with a modern and fresh twist. I love to see how classic trends that have been around for decades, can be reimagined and styled with a new and fresh approach. One of my favorite pieces I’ve seen emerging from this trend and popping up among my favorite retailers is the sailor short. From Zara to H&M, this style is one you need this Spring and Summer.

The sailor short is such a classic and necessary style. Its’ high waist tends to flatter a multitude of body types, and the signature gold buttons give it a sophisticated feel that can transition into many different looks. Whether casual or dressy, the sailor short just works. This is one of the reasons you need to get you a pair asap.

As I’ve mentioned, the sailor short can be worn several ways. Rock them with a t-shirt and sneakers for a cool and comfy vibe. Try a white button down and mule for a classic look. Try with a matching blazer for an elegant sophisticated appeal perfect for a daytime brunch or classy affair. Or totally mix it up. I paired mine with a pastel sweater and cream oversized shield sunnies for a mix of preppy and street edge. The possibilities are really endless. I don’t believe there’s really a wrong way to style them.

Another reason you need a pair is because they come in variations to fit most styles. They are available in neutral colors that will match anything in your wardrobe. Traditionally you will find white, or navy, and more recently black and nude. Any of these colors are chic and versatile. Sailor shorts also come lower waisted and higher waisted to suit your style and comfort of length. Personally I prefer the higher waisted style. I like the way it’s proportioned and I feel like sometimes with lower rise options, the buttons don’t lay as sleek. This may be because they are placed where the pocket flares out at the hip. The style is up to you, but bottom line is, there’s one out there for everyone.

The last reason you need to jump on getting a pair of sailor shorts is because they are classic. Although they may be on trend right now; what goes around comes around always rings true in this case. Nautical fashion has been around since the 18th century becoming popularized by Royals dressing their children in them and later by Coco Chanel. The sailor pant was made a staple by the British Royal Navy and later the sailor short was derived. Therefore, it is an iconic staple that you can always wear for years to come. You’ll be able to enjoy these every summer and always be in style. Adding a sailor short to your wardrobe will not just be fashionable for the moment but economical and sustainable.

So are you convinced yet that you need a pair of this classic style? I hope so because every fashionista needs to own a pair of this sailor chic staple. If you’re not a fan of shorts you can always opt for a sailor pant or even blazer. Whatever style you choose, you will be chic, stylish and making waves in this nautical trend for years to come!
