The official day of fall has finally arrived which means its safe to bid summer adieu. Now that we can stop thinking about summer dresses, lightweight fabrics and sandals;whats next? Some of you may have been so caught up in trying to hold on to summer, that you have given no thought to your must haves for the fall season. Not to fret for I have come up with some tried and true staples that every fashionista should have in her wardrobe every fall season, leaving room to sprinkle in a few trends. The good news is some of these pieces you may already own and can refresh to save a few coins. So get your checklist ready so the leaves will be the only things falling into a rut this season!
Leather:
Leather is a tried and true staple in my book for fall. There are so many variations you can try whether it be a skirt, dress, pant or jacket. If I had to choose I would definitely recommend owning at least one leather jacket in a neutral color (black/camel,navy,white) and a leather pant. The jacket can be dressed up or down and will add edge to an outfit. Leather pants are just so posh and can be worn casually with a tee or dressed up for a night out. Opt for a slim or high waisted style. Now leather can get a bit pricey but is considered an investment you’ll have for years to come. But luckily, if you’re not ready to invest just yet there are several fashionable faux leather styles (like the ones I’m wearing) on the market to choose from.
Sweater Dress:
Sweater dresses are so chic and are sooo easy to wear and style. I love this style because you don’t have to think too much about it. Pair with a cute ankle or knee boot and stylish bag and your done. You can even throw your leather jacket over top for a fun layer that adds warmth. Black is always a safe and acceptable choice, but I suggest rich warm tones. Chocolate brown, olive green, white and camel I feel lend such a rich and chic look.
A Chic Blazer
Blazers are great to layer all year round, but the autumnal colors of fall just led a certain sophistication to the average blazer. It also serves so many purposes. Pair belted over a dress, with a pleated skirt or rock over a graphic tee with jeans. I suggest getting on a classic print. Fall is when all the seasonal patterns and fabrics start to show their faces. Houndstooth, herringbone, windowpane, boucle, wool to na e a few. All of these patterns also look great in popular fall colors like camel, brown, burnt orange, etc. I personally love houndstooth (wearing in the picture) and boucle for a parisian inspired look. Try to steer away from lightweight fabrics and select a heavier fabric like wool.
Something in Mustard,Olive, and Burgundy
I think every woman’s wardrobe needs at least one piece in each of these three hues. We know camel, gray and black are in full effect all fall long, but these colors just add that extra spice to a look. They pair nicely with your neutral colors or can be worn together. They also leave room for some interesting and chic color combos. Try olive with bright pumpkin orange (see here). Burgundy would look fierce with blush or purple for an interesting twist. The possibilities are endless which is why you will always win with this triple threat.
The Fedora
You guys know I looove hats and they definitely had to make the cut of must haves. Now there are several hat styles but I feel like the fedora jut screams fall is here. Not to mention its sharp, structured fit will have you slay even the most casual outfit. Check out this affordable one here that I love and comes in an array of color choices.
Over the Knee Boot
Boots are a staple and a knee boot is a staple for fall. Ankle boots are great but theres something about a great boot that comes to the knee or over the knee. Leather or suede is an optimal choice; try an unusual color or pattern for a fun twist. I think they are best styled with dresses; looking especially great with mini dresses. You can wear over jeans but just be careful with your proportions. The height is pretty limiting so if your shorter, like me, it may cut your frame and appear unflattering.
There are so many other items that the fall season brings into rotation, including scarves, suits and more. These items are just my must list that I think is a no fail guide. All six pieces can be styled with various pieces in your wardrobe, but the winning idea is that all of these items can also be worn together for the perfect look. With variating colors of these items, you’ll always have an outfit to slay the day. I hope this list assists you in shopping for or creating your perfect fall wardrobe.
