The Feather Trend at NYFW 2022

So this year I got to go to New York City for the ever popular NYFW. This is my first official fashion week experience and it didn’t disappoint. From the liveliness of the city, fashion was definitely in the air. Besides the fabulous runway shows, designer presentations and chic after parties, I have to say, I was most excited to see what trends would be popping up amongst the street style. There were so many good ones, including cargo jeans and metallics, but my favorite was definitely the feather trend.

The say birds of a feather flock together; and there were definitely many fashionistas part of the fashionable flock. The fluffy, full, over the top drama that feathers create is just a party in itself, and I’m here for it. I spotted so many people rocking the trend whether full on frock or trim.

Full on Feather

If your a fashion daredevil like me, or just like to create moments with fashion, then going full on feather is the way to go. A feather dress or skirt is an instant statement; nothing else needed. When wearing this try to stick with simple or minimal shoes and accessories to make your outfit shine. Your feathered fashion is the showpiece and you want people to fully take it all in. One also must be cognizant that this trend can straddle the borderlines of both tacky and chic alike. I know to be categorized as the rich auntie is a form of flattery endearment these days; but not Big Bird’s rich auntie. Make sure you are picking pieces that still exude a certain level of sophistication in addition to fun.

Accessorize–

If you are not sure about this trend or just want to try it, accessories are a good way to add a small dose of drama. Spotted on the NYC streets were everything from shoes to bags in all types of fun and vibrant colors. A feathered accessory can take a plain minimal outfit to over the top. Try adding a feather accessory in a rich color to your favorite black dress or rock with a simple t-shirt and jeans. It will take your look to fab instantly.

Feather trimmed – There were so many that sported their feathers in this way. This option is great for those who aren’t committed to a full feather ensemble but want to give a little drama. Feather detail on the cuff of a blazer or the hem of a dress adds just the right amount of chic drama one needs. The Zara blazer below is a good example of a piece that exhibits just the right amount. The vibrancy of the color mixed with the feather trim is just divine.
